In Australia, Migration Agents must be registered with the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA) in order to provide immigration assistance. It is illegal to practice as a migration agent without being registered in Australia.
Agents outside of Australia are not legally required to be registered under Australian Federal Law. Using unregistered agents does not afford you the protection that they have passed the required character tests, that they comply with the MARA code of conduct and that they have the necessary immigration law qualifications.
There are plans in place in Australia to prevent Unregistered Agents from acting for clients in future. Until such regulations have been enacted, prospective migrants are strongly advised to exercise caution in selecting an agent to handle there visa application.
