The following FREE Points Calculator allows you to see how many points you may be eligible for.

Age

You must be over 18 and under 45 years of age at the time of application.

English Language Ability

Proficient.

You achieve a score of at least 7.0 in each of the four components of the General IELTS test or an equivalent level in an OET exam, where you sat the OET exam as part of your skills assessment. There are no exemptions for specified passport holders.

Competent.

You must be a native English speaker and hold a passport from UK, Canada, NZ, Ireland or USA. Or you achieve a score of at least 6.0 in each of the four components of the General IELTS test or an equivalent level in an OET exam, where you sat the OET exam as part of your skills assessment.

Concessional Competent

You achieve a score of at least 5.5 in each of the four components of the General IELTS test and pay an english language tuition fee in a participating State or Territory.

Vocational.

You must achieve a score of at least 5.0 in each of the four components in a IELTS test.

Less than Vocational.

(you may not be eligible)

Nominated Occupation from the SOL

Your nominated occupation must be on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) current at the time of application or you will not be eligible. Your occupation must be one which fits your skills and qualifications.

Recent Work Experience

To meet the recent work experience requirement, you must demonstrate that you have been employed in any occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for a specified period immediately before lodging your visa application. Only paid employment for at least 20 hours a week is accepted.

Recent work expereince

You have worked in an occupation on the SOL for at least 12 out of the 24 months immediately before applying.

2 Year Study rule

You meet the 2 year study rule and qualify for a waiver.

Australian experience

You have worked in Australia for at least 12 months during the past 48 months in your nominated occupation or a closely related occupation.

You have completed a recognised Professional Year in Australia in the past 24 months.

Employment Experience

3 year in a 60 pointer

You have worked for at least 36 months during the past 48 months in your nominated 60 point occupation or a closely related 60 point occupation.

3 years

You have worked for at least 36 months during the past 48 months in a skilled occupation.

Study in Regional Australia

You are entitled to bonus points if you meet the 2 year study rule and your qualification(s) were completed at a Regional Educational Institute and you have lived for at least 2 years in a Regional or Low Population Growth Metropolitan Area. Do you qualify for study in Regional Australia Points?

PHD

You have an Australian PhD which took at least 2 years of study in Australia to complete.

Masters

You have a Masters degree awarded after at least 1 year of study in Australia and met the requirements of a bachelor degree after at least 1 year of study in Australia. You must have a total of 3 years study in Australia.

Bachelors with Hons

You have a Bachelor degree with Honours (second class (division 1) or above) after at least 3 years of study in Australia.

You meet the 2 year study rule.

You hold a degree which was conducted in a designated language and which is the equivalent of an Australian bachelor degree

You are an accredited by NAATI as a professional interpreter or translator (level 3) in a designated language

You are entitled to points if your spouse or defacto partner is included in your visa application and is not an Australian citizen or permanent resident; and meets the threshold criteria, that is;

  • is over 18 and under 45 years of age; and

  • has the required level of English; and

  • has a successful skills assessment in their nominated occupation;

  • and has eithermet the 2 year study rule; or has been employed for at least 12 months during the past 24 months in an occupation on the SOL.
